Apple Store Belfast Grand Opening

A slightly belated post about the opening of the Apple Store in Belfast’s Victoria Square on Saturday 20th September 2008.

I was there, arriving at about 7.45 am to become about 75th in the queue. By 9 am newcomers were being coralled on the lower floor of the centre in a secondary queue.

Having never been at an Apple Store opening, I was a bit surpirsed when all the staff ran out of the store whooping and high-fiving the crowd! Then there was the countdown with more whooping and cheering, and we finally got to go inside Ireland’s first ever Apple store. Which was lovely and shiny of course.

I supposed I could have choosen to be cynical and see the event only for the slick marketing stunt that it was.  But I have been an devoted Apple user for 10 years and was geniunely pleased to have a local store open.  It was all a bit of fun - and a nice chance to have a informal Belfast tweetup.

Yes, that’s right.  People are taking photos of other people who are taking photos of the yet unveiled Apple Store in Belfast’s Victoria Square.
Apparently some crazy folks are camping out to ensure they are at the front of the queue.
This Apple fangirl will be there at a civilized 8am with my camera.
