Excellent post! This type of bargain basement ‘design’ service infuriates me and is also rife in the web design industry. We regularly get calls from people wanting a website for £500 and they are incredulous when I advise them that to met the minimum cost of a small and very basic site they’d need to add a zero to that figure. This situation is bourne of no-talent people who have a copy of Photoshop and think that makes then a designer. Shame on them all.

This should really be titles ‘40 Logo Production Tutorials’ because the action of creating something in Photoshop is production, not design. If you are designing a logo, or a website (or anything for that matter) the design lies with the ideas and concepts and they should have been conceived and resolved on paper before ever opening a graphics program to do production.
I am continually frustrated by a seeming lack of understanding of the design process and that design concept, treatmeant/art direction, and production are seperate things (although not mutually exclusive by any means).
